Explore Delft Island

A ferry ride from Jaffna lies the oval shaped Delft Island, a piece of flat land surrounded by shallow seas. On the western coast of the island there are remains of a 1000-year-old temple built by the Chola Dynasty as well as the ruins of a Dutch colonial fort. For the adventurous who seek to step firmly off the beaten track.

Other attractions on this sleepy island include ruins off ancient temples, odd Baobab trees planted by Arab mariners and packs of wild ponies descended from those brought here by the Portuguese in the 1500s.
