One of Bhutan’s oldest and most revered temples has been rebuilt and extended over time, most recently with a temple sponsored by the Royal Grandmother. A 5 metre high statue of Guru Rinpoche and iron links forged by Thangtong Gyalpo are some of the sacred treasures. The main sanctuary houses statues of Jowo Shakyamuni, the young Buddha and the Tibetan king who built the original temple in 659 AD.
