Take the scenic drive up to one of Bhutan’s most picturesque and welcoming dzongs. The scenery enroute is dramatic, along cliffs high above the river valley. The dzong itself is very picturesque, sitting on a rocky outcrop with near vertical drops on all sides. Nearby viewpoints are also worth driving to, for dramatic views of the dzong and the snowy peaks of the Kuri Chhu valley.
Visitors at the dzong are sure to receive a warm welcome here from the monks, as few tourists venture this far, and those that do are rewarded with more freedom to explore than at any other dzong in Bhutan.
The town of Lhuentse is it is one of the ancestral homes of the royal family and is reputed for its textiles, which are
often considered the best in the country. A recommended excursion from Lhuentse is to the weaving village of Khoma.
