This is a 7 day/ 6 night extension to the Discover Ladakh itinerary, to include Sikkim and Darjeeling. You’ll fly from Leh to Bagdogra in West Bengal via Delhi, and from Bagdogra, drive to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. Explore the beautiful city of Gangtok over two days. Rinchenpong is one of Sikkim’s most popular locations, with grand Himalayan views, and scenic trails. You’ll then drive to Darjeeling, where you explore the colonial heritage, tea culture and the World Heritage steam railway. In every location, there is colourful culture on offer, with Buddhist monasteries, Hindu temples, a unique cuisine inspired by Tibet (dumplings) and friendly locals.

Your itinerary in detail

Gangtok:

  • The Rumtek Monastery on the outskirts of the town is one of Buddhism’s most sacred monasteries.
  • Tashi View Point
  • One of Gangtok’s most notable Buddhist institutions is the Enchey monastery
  • The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, better known as the Tibetology Museum, houses a huge collection of masks, Buddhist scriptures, statues, and tapestries
  • The Himalayan Zoological Park exhibits the fauna of the Himalayas in their natural habitats.
  • Mahatma Gandhi Marg and Lal Market are the tourist spots in central Gangtok

Rinchenpong/Pelling:

  • Rinchenpong is a town in West Sikkim, with great mountain views, especially in the morning, where you will be greeted by a spectacular sunrise on Kanchenjunga and its sister peaks. One by one Kanchenjunga, Rathong, Kabru, Kumbhakarna, Pandim, etc. will catch the crimson rays of the rising sun turning the entire massive range into a bright shade of scarlet.
  • Several trails lead past Lapcha traditional houses and old British forest bungalows to ancient monasteries, through beautiful forest, with the snowy peaks of Himalayas towering above the treetops.
  • Pelling is a stunning village, famed for its scenic views, and traditional ways of life. Sights include Ravangla Buddha Park, Pemayangste Monastery & Khecheopalri Lake,

Darjeeling:

  • World Heritage Darjeeling Hill Railway
  • Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and Museum
  • Local tea estates
