Accommodation

The bedrooms are all different – some smaller and cosy, others larger and airy and spacious – and have been beautifully, rustically, simply but very comfortably furnished. The thick stone keeps the heat out but the warmth in and there are no end of places to snuggle up in with a good book or just for a daydream – either inside or out! Snug sitting rooms are perfect for the chillier winter nights and al fresco, poolside is idyllic on warm sunny days.

There are 5 bedrooms – 3 in one villa and 2 in another. The beds can be made up as doubles or twins. One room has a bath tub, the remainder have indoor and open showers in the en suite bathrooms. All rooms have open balconies with forest views. The 2 villas each have a pretty central courtyard with the rooms, dining room and sitting room fanning off from them

All rooms are centrally air-conditioned, have overhead fans, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers and safes and bathrobes. Hot water bottles are provided on particularly cold nights. Hot water is plentiful and provided by geyser. Unlimited mineral water per person per day is provided. No smoking rooms. No rooms are interconnecting but each is just across the courtyard from the other. Butlers are also on hand if you need anything. The rooms do not have TV or DVD players – peace is the byword here. All rooms are on the ground floor so wheelchair access is easy. There are a few steps here and there but ramps can be provided.

Dining

Anopura prides itself on its delicious home cooking, scrumptious salads and hugely varied menu – most produce is farm fresh, locally grown or sourced; and its wonderful, proud, smiling team of staff. With a hugely welcoming, warm, cosy atmosphere – very much a home from home – Anopura oozes space and style; privacy and calm. A gentle place to come for days or weeks, to soothe the soul.

Dining tends to be in the gazebo by the pool by each villa but can also be alfresco in fine weather or inside in the villa dining rooms if cooler or wet. They serve Continental, Oriental and Indian cuisine. The hotel offers table d’hote and a la carte dining. The food is fresh, locally grown or produced where possible and all dietary requirements can be catered to. Alcohol is available.

Why we love this place

Originally created by a highly talented and much admired Belgian interior designer / architect, the love and care that has gone into the décor here is superb and it’s a stunning place which reminds one more of a Mediterranean villa than a Rajasthani hideaway. Stone, local artefacts, colourful rugs, oodles of space, soft lighting, private balconies and excellent bathrooms are what it is all about inside.

However, this is more a place to be outside where you are greeted with sweet smelling shrubs, frangipani and flowerbeds all around. Meandering pathways lead around the property and from villa to pool to villa.

Once by your virtually private pool, however you will not want to leave. Ingeniously designed, they are simply THE most gorgeous pools and are made of different coloured slate tiles which glisten and sparkle through the water. Surrounded by wide, sun-filled terraces with plenty of daybeds, yet with a hugely inviting, shady gazebo replete with deep, cushioned sofas and dining area just to one side, one could spend hours or days relaxing here, gazing out to the hills and hardly believing the ‘buzz’ of Jaipur is just down the road.

Our Recommendation

Take a walk through the surrounding countryside and spend time wallowing in the stunning slate pools.
