Camp Hornbill is based in the village of Kyari in the Pawalgarh Conservation Reserve under the Corbett Tiger Reserve.
The camp’s main open dining hall and other buildings use local materials such as mud and thatch. A simple garden and pond are features between the tents.
The camp has nine en suite mud cottages and ten safari tents (with separate bathrooms) equipped with camp cots, quilts, mattresses, and pillows. Kerosene and solar lanterns are used for lighting.
Fresh vegetables from neighbouring villages are used in the camp kitchen. The menu is a simple mix of Kumaoni and Indian cuisines.
Guided nature walks with local village naturalists; birding trails; village walks; treks; mountain biking; rappelling; accompanied night walks in the buffer zone; river crossing on a rope line; water surfing; vertical rope ladder climbing.
This is a very unique community run venture with the goal of enabling the youth of village Kyari in connecting to their natural roots while finding an organic means of livelyhood from eco-tourism. Its open-hearted hospitality offers an insight into local village life bordering Corbett.
Surrounded by dense forest lands and the River Khichri flowing close by, nature comes to you with the region’s profusion of birds manifesting themselves from dawn to dusk with their musical chirping.
