Located in the idyllic wildlife township of Thekkady, Cardamom County is a nature retreat bordered on one side by the Periyar National Park and its lush highland forest and wetlands ecosystem. Tucked away in the cloud-hugging Cardamom Hills, it is bordered on the other side by a vibrant spice-trading community typical of the hill stations above the Malabar Coast.

The design reflects the desire to conserve its natural surroundings, with spacious cottages constructed cleverly along the natural contours of the thickly- wooded hill. Focused at it base, is an organic garden, an inviting sculptured swimming pool and its main reception area and open air restaurant. Radiant bird songs awake the traveller each morning before a cup of tea arrives and another exciting day in this verdant natural haven begins.

Accommodation

Cardamom County offers accommodations in elegant cottages built on various levels along the natural contours of the hillock it sits on. Around 44 lovely cottages blend into the terraced slopes. Rooms are spacious and airy, with interiors that are simple and elegant. Each cottage also has its own little patio from where guests can enjoy the lush natural habitat.

Three categories of rooms are available – the Periyar cottages that face bamboo forests, County Cottages with views of spice gardens, and Suites with breath-taking views from the bedroom and living room windows.

Dining

The All Spice restaurant is a tribute to its own name. A feast of tastes and textures, All Spice mixes ethnic traditions, natural ingredients and original fusion food concepts. Here, we source as much produce as possible from around the resort to create food experiences from our farm to your table. All Spice also has an expansive open-air terrace able to accommodate a large number of guests; an ideal venue for informal parties, grills and barbeque. Enjoy your choice of beer and wine at the restaurant or at Cinnabar, overlooking the loveliest pool the hills have to offer.

Cardamom County is also home to Ayura Wellness, a certified wellness centre, where you can get an introduction to Ayurveda, an ancient way of life that promotes healthy living. The highly skilled team of Ayurveda specialists at Ayura provide tailor-made stress-relieving therapies, using handmade medicinal oils. For an experience that frees the body, mind and soul from all tensions, aches and pressures, Ayura is the perfect destination.

Guests can relax by the swimming pool, hit the gym, use snooker, table tennis, caroms for recreation or Yoga centres to energise, and spend time at the in-house library and shop at the Design store at the resort.
