Lunuganga was once the country home of the world renowned Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. Recognised for his unique ability to blend distinct buildings with their natural surroundings, Lunuganga was transformed over 40 years, from an abandoned rubber estate into one of the most enchanting gardens of the 20th century.

The country home has been sympathetically renovated into a 10 bedroom heritage property, furnished delicately with antiques and art.

Accommodation

The 10 bedrooms and suites are preserved as they existed during the lifetime of the architect and are decorated with a resplendent mixture of antique and modern furniture, and traditional and contemporary art.

Dining

The house speciality is Sri Lankan food which includes plain or egg hoppers, kiribath, and fiery chilli and lime infused coconut sambol, served to an open plan restaurant that gazes onto the garden and lake. Guests can also enjoy meals and sundowners in some of Bawa’s favourite spots around the estate. Other dishes consist of international and contemporary Asian fusion meals that use the finest ingredients sourced from local vendors. Meals can be catered to all dietary requirements.

Other things to do in the area, include jet skiing and wind surfing in Bentota, and boat trips along the Madu Ganga river estuary, an important wildlife-filled wetland. Galle Fort offers an abundance of history, architecture and cafes, whilst nearby Ambalangoda is famous for southern arts and crafts.
