Destination

Northern Kerala, traditionally known as Malabar, is a rare jewel with empty beaches fringed by coconut plantations, peaceful inland waterways, lush hillside spice gardens and an undisturbed rhythm of life set against the immensity of the ocean.

Accommodation

Modelled on the traditional fisherman’s huts, there are 18 huts that offer complete privacy. The rooms are split into three categories – sea view, garden view and private pool cottages. All rooms, constructed in locally available laterite stone and topped by thatch or tile, have a similar design, layout and facilities. With teak floors, high ceilings and locally crafted furniture to give the complete Malabari experience, each room is named after a yogic virtue. Complementing the serenity of the cottages are the luxurious indoor-outdoor bathrooms.

Dining

The property has two dining options, Annapurna is a predominantly vegetarian restaurant that focuses on the goodness of nourishment. All recipes and preparations are based on the ayurvedic principles of appearance, balance, flavour, enjoyment and nutritional effects of any dish. The restaurant opens up to the gardens on all sides, letting in the cool sea breeze. Meenakshi, named after a local goddess, is perched on the beach side. It offers authentic Malabari dishes and mother-watering seafood delicacies. The hermitage has two bars, one located at the main dining option, Annapurna and the other one, overlooking the pool called Varuna Bar.

Experiences

There are many ways to soak in the serenity called Neeleshwar. From a dip in the infinity pool to an afternoon cocktail in its tranquil environment or the healing touch at the spa, there is much to indulge in. For those looking to step out and explore, there are many options – visit the Bekal fort, take a trip to the neighbouring village or just cycle around the paddy fields, temples and the languid coastline dotted with small fishing villages. For those who want to enjoy the backwaters, the luxurious Lotus houseboat offers an out of the world experience.
