Bengali sweets are renowned for their rich flavours and unique textures. The best known ones are worth seeking out on your travels, and here are our personal favourites:
- Roshogolla (Rasgulla): Soft, spongy balls made from Indian cottage cheese and soaked in sugar syrup.
- Sandesh: A dry, sweet treat made from Indian cottage cheese and sugar, often flavoured with cardamom or saffron.
- Mishti Doi: A creamy, sweetened yogurt made with thick milk and jaggery.
- Rasmalai: Soft, spongy balls of chhena soaked in sweetened, thickened milk flavored with cardamom and saffron.
- Chomchom: Cylindrical sweets made from Indian cottage cheese, often coated with coconut flakes or stuffed with khoya.
