Indulge your sweet tooth

Every corner of India has claim over some sweet delicacy as its speciality. Wherever you are on your holiday, you can taste a wide variety of Indian desserts. Apart from the local varieties, desserts from Bengal are universally loved and all over the subcontinent and beyond.

Bengali sweets are renowned for their rich flavours and unique textures. The best known ones are worth seeking out on your travels, and here are our personal favourites:

  1. Roshogolla (Rasgulla): Soft, spongy balls made from Indian cottage cheese and soaked in sugar syrup.
  2. Sandesh: A dry, sweet treat made from Indian cottage cheese and sugar, often flavoured with cardamom or saffron.
  3. Mishti Doi: A creamy, sweetened yogurt made with thick milk and jaggery.
  4. Rasmalai: Soft, spongy balls of chhena soaked in sweetened, thickened milk flavored with cardamom and saffron.
  5. Chomchom: Cylindrical sweets made from Indian cottage cheese, often coated with coconut flakes or stuffed with khoya.
