What started as a simple act of one man feeding some pigeons way back in the 70s, has now transformed into a major community conservation initiative and a vital migration stopover for thousands of Demoiselle Cranes during August-March. It is estimated that the generous local communities around the village of Keechan provide up to 4,000 kg of bird seed daily for about 20,000 visiting Demoiselle Cranes. The village achieved international recognition when it was featured in Birding World magazine and is now popular among bird watchers and nature lovers who come to watch the cranes fly in and feed at the specially created rectangular enclosures.
