Witness a peculiar way of fishing along Sri Lanka's south coast

Stilt Fishermen

Between Unawatuna and Weligama, one gets to witness a peculiarly unique local way of fishing. When conditions are just right, fishermen perch themselves on poles firmly embedded in the sands close to the shore and cast their lines. In recent times, they have become more aware of their photogenic potential, and are known to pose for tips even when not intending to fish.
