Dr Richard David Williams is a cultural historian of South Asia. He is especially interested in the history of Indian music and literature, and works in multiple Indian languages. He was trained at the University of Oxford and King’s College London, and is now Reader (Associate Professor) in Music and South Asian Studies at SOAS University of London. He has given lectures on Indian history in Japan, the USA, across Europe, and at several Indian universities. His book, The Scattered Court: Hindustani Music in Colonial Bengal came out in 2023. He has travelled across India, and is especially interested in the histories of Rajasthan and Bengal.
