Dharamsala, clinging to a ridge in the Dhauladhar mountains, and the township of McLeod Ganj above it are now famous across the world as the home of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader in exile, and a sizeable number of Tibetan refugees.
Pilgrims and visitors come to attend public teachings by the Dalai Lama, learn meditation, performing arts and crafts, or just to experience the unique atmosphere of this town.
The whole area is very picturesque, photographers will relish the views of snow-capped crags, colourful fluttering prayer flags and the red-and-gold prayer wheels that adorn every monastery.
