The remarkably well-preserved Golconda Fort is the largest and most impressive fort of south India. It was the capital of Qutub Shahi dynasty from 1518 until the end of the 16th century.
With its eight grand gates, almost 90 semi-circular bastions and its multiple tiers of ramparts and arches, the fort is an impressive sight. Inside its three lines of defences are royal apartments, mosques, and a treasury that once held the fabled ‘Kohinoor’ diamond.
