Bhutan’s best weavers reside in this remote, traditional weaving village. They produces some of Bhutan’s finest and expensive weavings. In almost all of the 30 houses here, women can be seen working on traditional back-strap looms set up on their doorsteps, making the finest brocades on silk. These pieces are often expensive gifts, or specially commissioned, with weavings so elaborate that they resemble embroidery. Traditionally, they adorn women’s dresses but now bags and other items are also produced. This skilled workforce has brought comparative prosperity to the village and local community.
