Vadodara has a rich history, and the 19th-century Indo-Saracenic Laxmi Vilas is the most impressive Raj-era palace in Gujarat. Its grand park like grounds, elaborate interiors, mosaics, chandeliers and artworks, as well as royal collections make it a very interesting slice of history that brings alive life in the Princely states during the later stages of the British Raj.
Vadodara is also the gateway to the nearby World Heritage Site of Champaner.
