Banjaar Tola

Kanha National Park
, Madhya Pradesh
, India

Banjaar Tola is a plush jungle safari lodge situated on the banks of the Banjaar River. With its own unique identity celebrating the Bastar and Dogra art from nearby Chhattisgarh, it’s really a masterpiece in the contemporary use of canvas through all the living quarters, fine dining and glamorous leisure areas. With two elegant camps of nine suites, each with its own intimate tented sitting area, the luxurious ensuite tents have been designed in a post-modern style with textiles designed with rich block printed Madhya Pradesh cottons and silks. Raw timber furniture, canvas wardrobes, leather detailing and handcrafted furniture made from fallen trees and driftwood give you a thoroughly upmarket camping feel.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Banjaar Tola is spread over two camps on either side with nine stilted tents each. All of the 18 tented suites set on raised platforms come with large bathrooms and wide glass doors that open into floating private decks overlooking the river and the park’s core area. They offer panoramic views of the wilderness beyond. Bastar bell metal work, Gond artwork and intricate stone carvings have been used to decorate the interiors, while also showcasing the cultural heritage of the region. The use of bamboo panelling in the rooms and for furnishings speaks of the sustainable path the lodge has undertaken.

Dining

The food at Banjaar Tola is inspired by Chhattisgarhi cuisine but can cater to all tastes. Dinner may be served in the forest lit by lanterns and accompanied by traditional dancing or on your own balcony. Fresh salads made using produce from the lodge gardens are also served. Private dinners in scenic settings besides the poolside or under clear starlit skies are also arranged for. A picnic dinner atop your jeep’s bonnet will await you at the end of your thrilling jungle safari, complete with freshly-baked goodies, fruits, hot kathi rolls and freshly-brewed coffee to wash it all down.

Experiences

Make the most of your time at Kanha. Visits to nearby villages give guests a chance to interact and learn from members of the local communities. You can also take your bicycle out and cover as much distance by wheels to soak in the sights and sounds of the region. Gond and Baiga tribes showcase their dances by the lodge’s bonfire in the evening. Banjaar Tola’s personalised cooking lessons are a big hit with the gourmands.
