Destination

Way back in the 19th century, the Raja of Cochin built a palace near his ancestral Krishna temple. Away from the bustle of the capital, it housed his entourage that would cater to him when he visited the temple. And thus came into being Chittoor Kottaram, the king’s residence.

Step out of the veranda on to the dew-laden lawns for a cup of tea, and you have a view of the water lilies floating over the glittering backwaters.

An occasional Brahminy kite will spread its wings to show you the expanse of your realm, and a blue kingfisher will fly close to the water, looking for its prey. In the evenings, a sunset cruise on the backwaters will take you on a
tour of your kingdom, chugging past idyllic villages snuggled amidst coconut groves. You return at dusk to diya-studded lawns with a glow that reflects your state of mind.

Accommodation

There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, and one on the first floor with an attached living room. The spaces are embellished with antique furniture and artefacts with their own stories to tell.

Dining

The cuisine served comprises of the best kept secrets from Kerala’s kitchens. It includes authentic vegetarian and non-vegetarian recipes prepared by your personal chef in the traditional way. The highlight of the menu is the fresh catch of the day from the nearby backwaters. You will be served your meal at any location of your choice – by the waterside with a view of the lake, at the gazebo, in the veranda, or in the company of nature in the open garden.
