MV Mahabaahu

MV Mahabaahu

Kaziranga National Park
, Assam
, India

A cruise on the M.V. Mahabaahu along the holy Brahmaputra River in India’s north-eastern states offers you a real insight into the region’s rich cultural heritage, ever-changing landscape and a plethora of India’s most well-known land and marine creatures – not just the Big 5 mammals but also the Big 5 birds! It is the only other river in the world, besides Zambezi, where jeep, elephant and boat safaris are possible. This ten-metre wide and 55-metre long liner has five decks, three of which have comfortable en-suite berths. However, the daily shore excursions are the real joy, apart from the wildlife stops at Kaziranga; and visits to Kamakhya temple, tea estates, ghats, and monasteries. Choose from a variety of travel packages ranging from week-long expedition cruise to a three-night Guwahati return circuit incorporating the Kaziranga National Park. While onboard, guests can rejuvenate themselves at the in-house spa, hit the sauna or jacuzzi, take some time out for yoga and massages, and even indulge in some exquisite culinary experiences. The cruise’s unique onboard bakery supplies freshly-baked goodies every morning.

Experiences

Dress up in traditional Assamese attire during the cruise’ cultural night and get mesmerised by traditional dance and music performances. Mahabaahu’s naturalist holds talks after each day’s safari to share their knowledge on the day’s sightings. Culinary lessons and live demonstrations by the in-house chef are usually a big hit with gourmands. An onboard spa, swimming pool, library, bar and lounge, and sun deck are some of the other features of the cruise. Offboard experiences include visits to the local mishing, silk weaving and fishing villages; a trip to Peacock Island – the smallest inhabited river island in the world; a meal with a tea planter’s family in the Haruchirai tea estate; and jeep, boat and elephant safaris through the enchanting Kaziranga forests.
