Cosmopolitan Bangalore (Bengaluru) is the hub of India’s IT revolution. Blessed with a benevolent climate but cursed with possibly the worst traffic of any major Indian city (and that’s one hard fought medal), Bangalore is not where you’d necessarily think of holidaying.
Nevertheless, Bangalore is a vital transport hub in South India, and thanks to thousands of visiting IT business executives, the city has some fantastic hotels whose creature comforts can be a godsend to the weary tourist.
If you find yourself spending a day or two here, either flying in or out, there are plenty of pleasant discoveries to be made, from the British Raj heritage still intact in the central district, to Tipu Sultan’s small palace with its teak pillars and ornamental frescoes, the Bangalore Palace (modelled on Windsor Castle), the home of the erstwhile Wodeyar rulers, to the excellent Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd Museum that will appeal to afficionados of military aviation.
