Taktshang Goemba

Tiger’s Nest Monastery is Bhutan’s most sacred place, clinging to a vertiginous ledge. The trek to reach it is a popular one, and the monastery is Bhutan’s best known icon. It is named after Guru Rinpoche and his flying tigress. The trek up to the mountain takes at least half a day, climbing amidst blue pines and rhododendrons, stopping for refreshments or a hot meal at the viewpoint, then following the trail above the tree line in the footsteps of holy men, and finally ascending a long flight of steps.
