Udaipur

With a backdrop of the Aravalli Hills, this marvellous fort-palace style hotel comprises the main ‘fort’, with two adjoining ‘houses’. The brainchild of English Indo-philes, it has been exquisitely furnished, with the lofty library and drawing room having a distinct ‘English Country House’ feel.

Accommodation

The 14 bedrooms are superbly decorated and everything here has an unparalleled level of taste and sophistication. The hotel is built around a stunning, verdant, cloistered courtyard garden and beautiful pool. Designed so that it can be split into separate ‘villas’, for private rentals, Bujera Fort is replete with airy verandahs, roof terraces and quiet corners.

Dining

The cuisine here is fresh and delicious, and there are no end of gloriously romantic dining venues.

Experiences

Walk in the hills and village, enjoy a spa treatment or rooftop yoga – the idea here is that it is a ‘home’ rather than a hotel and they’ve got it just right!

Why we love this place

Udaipur’s only boutique hotel and a gem of a place, is situated on the edge of the small village of Bujera, with distant views of the lake and city. Truly gorgeous, small, friendly and welcoming. The inspired creation of outstanding interior designer Richard Hanlon and Trish McFarlane, it has immense style and sophistication throughout. The Fort has all the feel and atmosphere of a glorious English country house with wonderful fabrics interspersed with Indian antiques, fabrics and “style”.

Responsible/Sustainable Tourism

Bujera Fort has been constructed to be as environmentally friendly as is sensibly possible.
The hot water is solar powered
All but five doors and windows in the whole building are salvaged.
Our sewage is separated so all the waste water is filtered to a state where it can be used to water the gardens.
We have water harvesting tanks under the courtyard and the three sitouts that harvest virtually all our rainwater and should provide us with six months water supply at full capacity, subject to good monsoons.
Our roofs are insulated with some 70000 hand made terracotta pots from Jaipur thus ensuring that we are cool in summer and warm in winter

Our Recommendation

Relax with a good book by the poolside in the central courtyard. The pool is beautifully designed like a step well and is surrounded by flower filled gardens with many secluded areas and fountains.
