Satpura offers a unique and very immersive nature experience, with activities such as nature walks, trekking, overnight camping, cycling trails and canoeing being allowed in various sections of the reserve. For those looking at an Indian jungle experience that goes beyond the routine of jumping into a Gypsy for a safari looking for tigers, Satpura is a breath of fresh air. There is a thriving tiger population here, but by altering the way nature is experienced and wildlife is observed, Satpura has carved a niche for itself in a region blessed with wildlife reserves.
Satpura lies close to the plateau on which the old British colonial town of Pachmarhi is built. Pachmarhi was the summer capital of the Central Provinces, and still remains a popular tourist spot.
Satpura offers good chances of seeing Dhole packs, Sloth Bear, Leopard and common Indian ungulates along with a good variety of smaller mammals like foxes, porcupines, flying squirrels and the Indian Giant squirrel. Night safaris into the buffer zones may yield sightings of nocturnal creatures like jungle cats, common palm civet and the Indian hare.
The lakeside offers great birding.
